Fade Your Brilliance (Written by Stewart Cunningham) We started dancing at a party We had a few drinks to many Next thing we’re alone in a bedroom Hands and faces and and what comes next is The early days are so amazing You’re so perfect – I do my best But there is danger close at hand A few more years it all falls down I can change my outlook now I won’t fade your brilliance down Whoo hoo hoo hooo I won’t fade your brillian down My own fear and hesitation Prevents me from my destination A long time of prevarication Face down into the gloomy road I got some issues to be rid of With the coming of the autumn cold I’m gonna shed these old leaves to the ground They are all so crumpled and old I won’t fade your brilliance down Whoo hoo hoo hooo I won’t fade your brillian down Whoo hoo hoo hooo (I promise not to fade your brilliance down) I can change I can change I have changed my colour now It’s all gold black and brown All blue and green now

Rich Kids Can't Play Rock'n'Roll (Written by Stewart Cunningham) You’re all white and clean and live in the best parts of this – town Yer Daddy bought you a house and a job The silver spoon, I got nothing, so tell me your truth Rich kids playing rock’n’roll Tell yer Daddy he can’t buy you no Soul Tell me bout your vintage guitars You stick em in your two car garage Tell me bout your latest cd’s Don’t mention your plasma tv’s Rich kids playing rock’n’roll Tell yer Daddy he can’t buy you no Soul Rich kids wanna be just like you and me But they don’t work in no factory & they don’t know what it’s like to be so alone, ohhh Yer Getting down with the working class But Your songs have nothing to say to me On a search for meaning in a life Where anything you wanted was given to you When it’s over you’ll be gone You’ll drop your fake r’n’r tongue When it’s over I’ll see you run Back to your palace in the sun

Bad Penny 04:01
Bad Penny (Written by Rory Gallagher) Well, like a bad penny you've turned up again, You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens. I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell, Well, you double-dealed me, baby and I broke like a shell. Like a bad penny you've sure lost the glow But I'm out of reach, your smile's sure gone cold. Well, it can't ever be like it was then, Well, don't you fool with me, baby, Don't you mess with my plans. Some stormy nights, your memory haunts me, You won't go away. Well, like a bad penny you have turned up in the change, Try to fit into the picture, you can't get inside the frame. I think you know I'm still sore, but I'm on the mend, Times sure have changed, it won't happen again. Well, like a bad penny spins around and around, Well, you won't know what's gone wrong when it all falls down, You got to learn from now on to stop playing games, You ought to keep on moving, you got to spin on your way. Some lonely nights, I hear you calling, Won't you go away? Well, like a bad penny you have turned up again, You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens. I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell,

Show You I Care (Written by Stewart Cunningham) I’ll show you that I care But I won’t always be there It’s not that I don’t really care I’ve got my own way to fare There’s time when I’m off on my own wide Open road to clear my troubled mind I want you to be aware One day I’ll show you that I care I don’t want to to think about days without you there It’s not the same when you’re not there I’ll show you that I care I really really really really care Show you that I care I’ll show you that I care I’ll show you that I care I don’t always treat you so fair But I’ll show you how much I care You’re so precious and rare I can’t complain when you finally leave me here When you vanish into thin air When you’re no longer there I don’t want to to think about days without you there It’s not the same when you’re not there I’ll show you how much I care Show you that I care I’ll show you Show you that I care

Ghost Ships 04:01
Ghost Ships (Written by Chris Bailey) Ghost ships are sailing on empty seas and the light that was in the darkness it does not shine on me. Like an old man I run to find the shore & the light that was in your eyes it doesn't shine there anymore So wait until tomorrow and darling then we'll see You know I don't know about tomorrow.......... Whilst they blow in the wind and then it blows in my mind and it’s Crazy in the moon that has to be mine Now darling I would run but baby I am tired & I feel that I, you know I must be hypnotised So wait until tomorrow and then we'll see I don't know about tomorrow..........Repeat 1st verse

Northern Rivers Town (Written by Stewart Cunningham) She was a friend of a friend I’ll tell you And I’ll admit that I didn’t know her very well She took a job away from the city She was a girl who took nobody’s pity Yeah she made up her mind, she had to make the most of time Yeah she made up her mind, she had to leave it all behind As she left town there was something on her mind She found there was something she couldn’t leave behind But the pity was gone and nobody wanted to know In that final moment she had to go it alone And I don’t know where she is now But I feel that she is happy anyhow And all her friends are in the dark To that secret that she keeps hidden in her heart She made up her mind

about

Rich Kids is the second Leadfinger album and it was officially released in December 2008. It was also the second Leadfinger album to be released by Bang! Records.

Based in the Basque region of Spain, Bang! has always been and still is a great supporter of Australian underground music and is the European home for The Drones, Kim Salmon, Beasts of Bourbon, Bored, Brian Hooper, Spencer P Jones and many others. The Leadfinger relationship with this great record label started back in the mid 90’s when Stewart Cunningham was in Brother Brick and then The Yes-Men – Bang! released records by both these bands and was a big fan of Australian hi-energy rock’n’roll such as The Powder Monkeys, Bored and The Celibate Rifles throughout this period.

Rich Kids was recorded in an old farmhouse in the rural dairy country south of Sydney and is seen as the first official album release by Leadfinger as a band. With Wayne Stokes (ex-Thumlock) on Bass and Steve O’Brien (ex-Unheard, Zero, Tumbleweed) on Drums the album was recorded to tape and self produced by Cunningham on a shoe string budget in 2007 but manufacturing delays meant that copies did not appear for sale until early 2009. Rich Kids however has stood the test of time – it is a cracking distillation of all that is great and unique about Australian underground rock’n’roll. The powerful songs have hooks galore with great slab riffs and wailing guitars that veer through swamp blues tones, sweet melodies and pleading vocals. The album contains a couple of Leadfinger live staples that the band still plays to this day in THIN LIZZY ON MY MIND, FADE YOUR BRILLIANCE and the power packed anthem – RICH KIDS CAN’T PLAY ROCK’N’ROLL. Three killer songs that spell out the Leadfinger manifesto at its most perfect.

The album is also graced with a tough as nails version of Rory Gallagher’s BAD PENNY whilst the gatefold vinyl also includes a version of Roky Erickson classic – I THINK OF DEMONS, the deluxe digipak CD includes The Saints GHOST SHIPS. There are still vinyl copies available of this album still but the stocks are very low.

The Rich Kids album is a powerful statement by a songwriter who had paid his dues in many great bands but had never found mainstream legitimacy in his homeland. Lucky there were fans overseas prepared to back him and because of this Leadfinger was given a crack at the title… a ‘Bad Penny’ from the Australian underground?… he has definitely turned up again!!
